![]() ![]() If you are new to this type of fishing it is a good idea to get there early to scope out any potential submerged hazards while it's still light. Stick baits trolled on a flat line in shallow water (8-12 feet), or casted from an anchored boat are popular choices. ![]() On calm nights in May and early June these areas can be found fairly easily as there are usually several boats trolling or casting. The most popular areas for this type of fishing are the coastline between Dunkirk and Barcelona Harbors, and the Woodlawn coastline, favoring shoals and other areas with a rocky bottom. Spawning is mostly over when the season opens, but male walleye tend to linger on the spawning grounds, making nighttime trolling and casting in these areas very effective once water temperatures get into the 50's. Spring offers some unique nearshore walleye fishing opportunities on Lake Erie. New York's local walleye population along with migrants from the western portion of the lake combine to create a world class walleye fishery here in New York! Spring These migrants can number in the millions and tend to be larger older fish. In addition to locally produced walleye, the large spawning stocks at the western end of the lake undergo an annual migration following spawning, with many fish making it all the way to New York. These local populations are especially important to springtime and nearshore fisheries. The New York waters of Lake Erie have a thriving local population of walleye that are supported by several spawning stocks all along the New York shoreline. For anglers seeking an additional challenge, there are several walleye tournaments throughout the summer that draw thousands of participants. If you don't have a boat there are charter captains that offer daily trips from the major harbors. Most anglers fish from a boat but there are also a few opportunities to fish from shore. Anglers can enjoy walleye fishing in the NY waters of Lake Erie from May 1-March 15 and can harvest 6 fish per day with a minimum size of 15 inches. However, trophy fish exceeding 30 inches and 10 pounds are boated with some regularity. Most walleye caught in Lake Erie are between 18 and 28 inches long and 4 and 8 pounds. About 60% of all angling effort is focused on walleye, making them the most sought-after fish in Lake Erie. Walleye are distributed widely in the lake and are available to anglers using a variety of techniques including trolling, drifting, or casting. Motorists on Lake Shore Drive, also state Route 5, were detoured around the work that was taking place from Central Avenue to Main Street.Lake Erie has long been recognized as one of New York's premier walleye fisheries. The water can still be used for bathing and washing. Bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute and allow it to cool before using. Once water was restored, all customers must boil their water or use bottled water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth and making ice. Industrial users and schools are being asked to shut down to conserve water until water levels are stabilized. Residential customers were asked to conserve water by limiting laundry and showers and use paper and plastic ware for eating to decrease dish washing. Because water levels have been depleted, all non-essential water use was urged to be discontinued immediately including that used for manufacturing and other industrial purposes until further notice. The Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services said Tuesday afternoon the water main break caused many Dunkirk water customers have no water or low pressure. Hubby and our oldest daughter stayed behind in the room. Wow, what a great first day. Oliver made his appearance also… ) I headed over to Dunkin Donuts and got me a Vanilla Chai Latte at that time. All of the kiddies in the lodge get to come down in their jammies and listen to a staff member read a story about Oliver the Wolf, etc. We went back into the waterpark for a little longer then headed to the lobby for 8pm story time. Those were purchased from the Bear Essentials Swim Shop where we also ended up getting some flip-flops for the waterpark. The girls ended up getting matching stuffed wolves with Great Wolf Lodge stamped on the rear. They say “Great Wolf Lodge” right on them. I spotted some cute pajamas that hubby ended up buying for me. Our oldest daughter got her own bed and the two youngest shared a bed. Our upgrade was to the Loft Fireplace Suite. When we slipped our card key into the slot and the door opened, we were beyond surprised. Now that we were checked-in, it was time to find our room. Now seeing it through big glass windows was definite eye candy. I noticed a Dunkin Donuts in the corner and then the biggest surprise of all….the indoor Bear Track Landing Waterpark! We’ve only been online to view the indoor fun or have seen pictures. While we waited for daddy to finish the check-in process, we toured the lobby. We couldn’t get up to our room fast enough. We also got courtesy Great Wolf Lodge ears (headbands) and bottled waters with wolf paw print fudge. We got an awesome upgrade at a discounted rate.
